A number of research studies have been conducted
in recent years relating to the attributes and quality of graduates/new
starters entering the workforce. A consistent theme that emerges
in each study is the lack of practical business skills and the
surprising lack of understanding of day-to-day business practices.
The
purpose of the PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATE in BUSINESS PRINCIPLES
is to provide to new graduates, particularly (but not exclusively)
from non-business disciplines, others entering business for the
first time, and small to medium business operators with a basic
introduction to practical business. New graduates and new starters
enter the workforce often with little or no understanding of the
day-to-day operation of business and face the daunting task of
learning on the job, often with embarrassing or even serious consequences.
Small to medium business operators face a similar task of ‘learning
on the go’ often diverting them from more immediate matters.
The need for this sort of program has been identified
on a number of occasions, but little action has been taken to
address the need.
B-HERT sees this as an important educational
and training initiative in enhancing, in a very practical and
user friendly way, the knowledge and skills of graduates, business
operators and others entering the workforce for the first time.
