Karim Temsamani, General Manager, Google Australia & New Zealand

B-HERT was delighted to host Karim Temsamani in Melbourne on 22nd October, 2009 as part of our Distinguished Speaker Series.

Karim’s address brought to light the inner workings of Google. He spoke about the approach of the founders of Google, Larry Page and Sergey Brin.

  • How they look for transformative innovation as opposed to incremental.
  • How they support a ‘fail quickly’ philosophy.
  • How employees are encouraged to question assumptions.

For potential Google employees, big dreams and curiosity are some of the required ingredients. Mention was made of the pursuit of technical insights which made developments such as WAVE and Google Maps possible.

One of the most interesting insights was the intent of capturing ‘power users’. Those users who seek a sophisticated experience across a number of Google’s product offerings. This approach supported by having a ‘ no lock-in’ policy with customers. Thus it was not first-time or infrequent users who were viewed as Google’s target market.
