Bosch Australia, the Australian arm of the A$104 billion German company that is the largest automotive engineering and electronics firm in the world, has announced a major partnerships with Monash University. In Australia, Bosch employs 1,400 people, and generates around $850 million in sales annually.
A new facility described as an “ag-tech launch pad” has been opened by the two parties in South-East Melbourne, complete with a prototype “smart farm” to research innovative new farming procedures. Monash University’s Ken Sloan tips agricultural technological advancement as, “the next big growth industry for Australia”. President of Bosch Australia, Gavin Smith, said of the collaboration, “Increasingly we see that there is no better place than Australia for ag-tech innovation. Bosch Australia and Monash have had a presence in Clayton since the 1950s, both being founded to support the emerging manufacturing industry of the time. Monash University has launched the Food Innovation Centre, a Food Incubator and Australia-China Dairy Manufacturing Centre to study food production sustainability.
Bosch is also active with agritech firms across Australia. Bosch has a partnership with SwarmFarm in Queensland to develop an autonomous robotic . Bosch was also recently announced as the lead investor and a technology partner a partnership and an investment of $2.5 million with of The Yield in Tasmania, introducing a comprehensive sensor system to improve productivity. Bosch’s investment in The Yield is now $6.0m and The Yield has now released a micro-climate sensing system, Sensing+™, (https://www.theyield.com/post/spotlight-on-hardware) with Bosch as a hardware partner.
